Ursula von der Leyen Re-elected as President of the European Commission: EHSEF and LDM Express Satisfaction

Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected as President of the European Commission with 401 out of 707 votes. The European Health and Social Equity Federation (EHSEF) and the Lega Diritti del Malato (LDM) have welcomed her re-election. Arch. M. Gemelli, President of LDM, praised the decision, highlighting its significance for European stability.
In her address, von der Leyen emphasized the importance of human rights and the right to health, critical themes for LDM and EHSEF. She pledged to uphold these rights as cornerstones of her new mandate.
Commission’s New Priorities
Von der Leyen outlined the Clean Industrial Deal to support the green transition, including specific measures for industrial decarbonization. She reiterated her commitment to a common EU defense, advocating for a European Defense Union while maintaining NATO as the pillar of collective defense.
Green Transition and Agricultural Dialogue
The President reaffirmed the importance of the strategic agricultural dialogue initiated in January, promising to listen to farmers and experts to develop a sustainable strategy that does not penalize the sector.
Social Rights and Housing Crisis
Von der Leyen announced the appointment of a commissioner for housing, aiming to develop a European plan for affordable housing. She also promised a European Democracy Shield to protect the EU from external interference and ensure press freedom.
