Officials and Agents of European Institutions Support the Petition to Improve the Italian National Health Service

A wave of solidarity has swept through European institutions present in Italy and across Europe, with officials and agents joining the signature collection to improve the Italian National Health Service (SSN). The central goal is to ensure an adequate number of general practitioners, a fundamental element to guarantee all citizens equitable and timely access to healthcare.

Of the nearly 20,000 signatures collected so far, over 3,100 come from officials and agents of European institutions. This significant contribution highlights how the issue is felt not only at the national level but also on a European scale. The signatories recognize the importance of an efficient and accessible SSN, essential for the well-being of the population and social cohesion.

These officials and agents also face the problem of the withdrawal of the health card, a situation that, in some cases, significantly reduces the possibility of accessing adequate care, especially in the most serious situations. The lack of a health card can indeed limit access to essential services, creating disparities and putting many people’s health at risk.

The promoters of the petition, the Federation Lega diritti del malato and the Conf Ir union, have already secured the appointment of new doctors, a significant first step towards improving the situation. Moreover, they will soon meet with regional administrators to coordinate shared actions aimed at strengthening the SSN and resolving existing critical issues. This collaboration aims to develop effective strategies to guarantee quality healthcare services for all.

The petition aims to raise awareness among the competent authorities about the urgency of intervening to strengthen the SSN, ensuring a sufficient number of general practitioners and resolving the problems related to the withdrawal of the health card. The support from European officials underscores how public health is a shared priority at the community level and how national challenges can have repercussions beyond the borders of a single state.

The involvement of such a high number of representatives from European institutions is a strong signal of solidarity and highlights the need for closer collaboration between national and European institutions to address health issues. Health is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed to all, without discrimination or bureaucratic obstacles.

The signature collection continues, with the hope that more citizens and institutional representatives will join this initiative. Only through collective commitment and general mobilization will it be possible to promote a stronger, inclusive SSN capable of responding effectively to everyone’s needs.
